The Environment Matters: Sensory Inclusion in Action

Date + Time

Event Details

Sensory support in early learning is about so much more than fidget tools and sensory bins.

Children communicate their needs through behaviour — and for sensory-seeking children, that communication often shows up through movement, touch, sound, and exploration. These behaviours aren’t random or “challenging”; they’re meaningful responses to a child’s environment, development, and lived experiences.

In this ECC Learning Lounge, Coach Shelby explores what sensory-seeking behaviour really looks like and how early learning environments can either support or intensify children’s needs. Sensory inclusion isn’t just recommended, for many children, it’s demanded.

This session focuses on realistic, classroom-friendly ways to design environments, plan activities, and respond intentionally to sensory-seeking children. You’ll walk away with practical strategies you can implement immediately,  without overwhelm or expensive materials.
