Meet Darren Barkhouse
(RECE, MEd)
Darren Barkhouse is an energetic and passionate educator, facilitator, and coach who believes that play isn’t just how children learn, it’s how they thrive.
With over 15 years of experience in early learning, outdoor education, and leadership, Darren brings equal parts expertise and enthusiasm to every session, workshop, and coaching conversation.
A lifelong learner himself, Darren holds a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from St. Francis Xavier University and an Early Childhood Education Diploma from Fanshawe College.
Over the years, he’s taught Kindergarten in South Korea, led children’s services in Ontario, and inspired hundreds of future educators through his college teaching in Play-Based Learning, STEAM, and Outdoor Learning.
At The ECC, Darren helps educators and leaders reimagine their environments, take learning outdoors, and find magic in the mess of play.
When he’s not teaching or coaching, Darren can often be found outside — hiking, camping, or exploring the world through the same wonder he hopes every child experiences.
